About the Altoona Chorus

The Altoona Chorus is an organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. They currently have over 32 singers of all ages, from all walks of life, and from all parts of the central Pennyslvania area.

The main purpose of the Altoona Chorus is to teach their members how to sing well, and they do that using 4 - part a cappella harmony.  Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, they will have coaching sessions in the art of barbershop, where they learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.

They love to get out and sing for their community. The Altoona Chorus sings at annual shows, a number of community events, and at an annual competition. They also perform at area nursing homes, hospitals and senior communities. The Altoona Chorus is available to sing at your next function or event. If you're looking for a unique musical experience to liven up your event, please check out their Hire Us section.

In the spring of eve chorus_portraitry year, the Altoona Chorus has participated in a region a chorus competition.  They traveld to Ocean City, MD for many years, but beginning in 2016 the competition site was moved to Hershey, PA.  Competitions are a special time for choruses and quartets from their region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. Beginning In 2015, International Competition has been held in Las Vegas, NV. Click here to learn more.

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. The Altoona Chorus has been home to a number of wonderful quartets, and have been very proud of them!  Click here to see our quartet section to learn more about their current quartet, Sounds of Style.

The Altoona Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
