Got Questions?

Here are a number of frequently-asked questions that we get:

 

How much personal time will it take?

In addition to weekly rehearsals throughout the year, there is an annual show in the fall.  We also participate in a Sweet Adelines regional competition in April each year, and have an annual weekend retreat to focus on preparing for competition at a local retreat lodge. We tend to perform in and around our area about once a month, usually on rehearsal night or for local festivals, business events, charitable events, as well as participating in Christmas and arts festival events.   

 

What is the cost?

 Dues are $20, payable monthly.  This covers the cost of regional and International dues (except initially), and chapter dues.  The chorus organizes a number of fund raisers to help keep member's costs low.  The member pays for hotel and some meals when we are traveling to competition.

 

What is the audition procedure?

Auditions are held privately, after rehearsal, and you are asked to sing your part with three other singers (music staff members) from the chorus.  You can have a 'practice audition' if you would choose to do so.  Your section leader will work with you to help you have a successful audition. 

 

Do I have to be a great singer?

No, our organization teaches correct singing in a group setting.  If you would like to improve the quality of your singing, then come to a rehearsal and see if you like what you hear.

 

How do I learn the songs?

The songs are given to you on sheet music and on CD, so that you can hear and practice along with a 'learning track' to help you learn your notes and words correctly.  

There are also 'section rehearsals' held during regular rehearsal night, to help each part learn their notes and words, and learn to sing together as a unit.
